Checklist
Before you start your placement you must make sure you have:
Emailed your job description to the Year in Industry Programme lead in your department for your placement to be approved and copy in the Year in Industry Team.
Received notification from the Year in Industry team that your placement has been approved and that we have received a signed copy of the 'letter of expectation' from your employer.
You must complete the Pre-Placement Briefing . You will need to allocate approx. 30 minutes to complete the briefing and you will not be allowed to start your placement until you have attended a briefing.
If you have a Learning Support Plan, it is recommended that you contact the Year In Industry Team to discuss if you would benefit from additional support during your placement year. You can request an appointment with a member of the team where this can be discussed in confidence.
Make sure you have set up your student finance with regard to your tuition fees. You can apply for a reduced maintenance loan, more information on fees, funding and managing your money during your placement year can be found here.
Arranged accommodation - as a fully registered student you will continue to be exempt from council tax. We also recommend visiting Smart Move Sheffield webpage for advice on house hunting and renting accommodation.
Register with a local GP/Medical Centre in case you are ill during your placement year.
Make sure you know the plans for day one (Where to go? Who do you report to? What's the dress code?).
International students: Make sure you have a National Insurance Number.
