The Year in Industry team are your main point of contact when finding and applying for placements, we offer:
During term time we offer in person 1-1 appointments in the Employability Hub in the Heartspace. During an appointment you can get advice on placement search, receive feedback on CVs, covering letters and application forms and get support with interview and assessment centre preparation. Briefing sessions and workshops will take place in semester one via Blackboard collaborate to help you with finding and applying for placements.

Your academic department
Attend Year in Industry ‘poster presentation’ events where students who have been on a year in industry showcase what they did during the year. These events are a great way to find out what you could be doing on your year in industry directly from those who have just returned from placement.
Ask your personal tutor if they can give you feedback on your CV – particularly the technical aspects.
Some departments have ‘careers days’ where they invite companies to come and meet with students. Check with your department to see if there are any events coming in the near future.

Organise employer presentations and workshops – a great way to find out what employers are looking for and what they can offer you.

Careers Fairs
The University Careers Service run annual Graduate and Placement Fairs. Please refer to the Careers Service web pages for more information on centrally run events.
Departmental Careers Fairs run on an annual basis. Sometimes these are combined with the End of Placement Poster or Oral Presentations, where you can meet placement students and their employers. Please check with your departmental contact for details.
The National Engineering & Construction Recruitment Exhibition.
Professional Institutions Careers Fairs are run on an annual basis nationwide and are normally held at the headquarters of the Professional Institutions.
Make LinkedIn Work For You
LinkedIn is a great resource for students and young professionals to establish an Industrial Network, keep an updated online CV / Portfolio, as well as search and apply for jobs (everything from Internships through to Graduate opportunities!)
This online professional social media platform is a outlet for you to investigate potential companies or industries that you want to work in, find individuals who're doing the jobs you aspire to and see the career path they took
LinkedIn is really useful, but only if you keep it accurate and up to date. To help, check out the advice For Students. There are also a variety of tip sheets on there too
