Popular Pre-Employment Tests
- Games Based Assessments are becoming increasingly popular. Have a look at this document to find out what you could expect and suggestions on how to prepare.
- Situational judgement tests present candidates with a range of different situations that they might experience in the job for which they are applying. For each situation, a number of possible actions are suggested. It is the candidate’s job to choose between these possible options and judge which is the most effective course of action to take and therefore which action they would take if faced with this situation. SJTs are always multiple-choice; no answers other than the options listed are allowed.
- Personality tests seek to answer the questions: Will the candidate be comfortable in this role? Does the candidate have the behavioural traits that are linked to success in this position? Unlike with aptitude tests, there are no right or wrong answers on personality tests. Instead, these tests measure the extent to which people possess relatively permanent behavioural traits.
- Emotional intelligence tests assess interpersonal effectiveness, collaboration and teamwork, motivation, empathy and decision-making. Strong emotional intelligence has also been associated with good leadership and strong management skills.
- Cognitive ability tests assess your mental capacity to work in a position and contain questions/tasks on your ability to use logical, verbal and numeric reasoning to approach tasks.
- Aptitude tests measure critical thinking, problem solving, and the ability to learn, digest and apply new information.
- Inductive reasoning tests measure abilities that are important in solving problems. They may also be referred to as abstract reasoning tests or diagrammatic style tests. These tests measure the ability to work flexibly with unfamiliar information and find solutions.
