All Engineering courses offer the option of a degree with a Industrial Placement Year.
You can transfer onto a degree with a Industrial Placement Year at any time - contact the Engineering Placements Team for additional information.
Be aware that the offer of a placement from a company may be on the condition of you achieving a certain grade (e.g. 2:1) and they may withdraw the offer if you do not achieve the required grade.
If following the Spring Exam Period you have not obtained at least 100 credits and are at risk of failing the year, you will not be permitted to proceed on your placement.
Please contact the Engineering Placements Team if you are concerned that you may not meet the above academic requirements.Â
Normally companies offer placements to penultimate year students, hence you will return to the University after your industrial placement to complete your final year of study.
BEng/BSc students will undertake their industrial placement after their second year of academic study (look 2nd year and go out on your 3rd year).
MEng/MComp students will undertake their industrial placement after their third year of academic study, however, sometimes these students can go out after their second year of academic study (look 2nd/3rd year and go out 3rd/4th year).
You also need to inform the Departmental Registration Officer as there are important implications from the University's point of view in terms of the Regulations for your degree if you take the placement earlier than in your penultimate year.
Masters students/postgraduate students are not eligible.
Summer internships can be undertaken alongside a placement year course as long as the dates do not overlap - you do not need to inform the team if you are undertaking a summer internship.
